Pluto Solstice

Seasons Greetings Earthlings,

You have received this email most likely because at some point in our conversation the subject of astrology came up and you showed an interest. Perhaps you even gave me your birth data to run a free chart for you, and perhaps you are still waiting for it (it's been a busy year but I promise I haven't forgotten and you are still on my to do list) or perhaps you've even had a reading from me.

As you well know the Winter Solstice is approaching. To be exact, it will arrive at 4:04 am Pacific Time on 12/21 as the Sun enters zero degrees Capricorn. Here in the Northern Hemisphere, it is the moment when from out of the greatest darkness the light begins to grow again. In the week that follows many faiths have holy days to celebrate this moment in our annual solar cycle and light the lights to mark this rebirth. This year the Solstice is extra special as the Sun is joined by Pluto. Pluto takes about 250 years to circle the Sun and also therefore the ecliptic plane which the planets circle and which we have measured with the zodiac for thousands of years now. To be exact, at 1:21 am Pacific Time on 12/22 the Sun and Pluto will be conjunct in Capricorn just barely still in degree zero.

Pluto as you may recall from myth is the god of the underworld and its archetypal symbolism is that of death and rebirth and the transformation that this brings. Before telescopes revealed Pluto to us, Saturn was the farthest out planet we knew, the bottom line. Today it is Pluto (though astronomers are clearly in denial and many farther out celestial bodies are being discovered all the time). To understand the power of Pluto, think of plutonium; Pluto is death by annihilation because something must profoundly die to be profoundly reborn. Pluto entered Capricorn this year and will be there till 2023. Capricorn is associated with among other things businesses, corporations, financial institutions, and we have all seen the headlines on that. No it's not the end of the world, just the end of the world as we know it, and amen for that. Plutonic death is the healthy forest fire that destroys the unsustainable barren old growth to make room for the newly birthing seeds that are needed to sustain us.

So as the Winter Solstice is joined by the powers of Pluto in Capricorn, this energy of rebirth is cosmically magnified to the extreme, in a moment that comes only once every 250 years, and which we are alive now to experience. Thus this time brings great cosmic energy to support whatever transformation we choose to manifest in our lives. To participate in this cosmic event, take a few moments this Sunday by yourself or with loved ones to sit quietly and consider where you seek transformation this season, this year, and for the rest of this lifetime, for yourself, your friends and family, our human tribe, and this sweet earth that supports us in every way possible and so desperately needs that in return from all of us at this moment in time. If ever there was a time to plant the seeds of our intentions, this is it! Meditation is good, and yoga particularly appropriate as Capricorn rules the bones. And if you read this after Sunday, know that you have participated even without knowing it, and in the next few weeks the Sun will remain in Capricorn and be conjoined with Plutonic energies in sign if not in direct alignment.

Whether you are a dear friend or someone I have spoken to only a few moments in passing, I am grateful for the good fortune to have met you and the time we have shared and the time yet to come, and I wish you all the deep power of this Pluto Solstice in your journeys and the transformations that lie ahead.
